Eric Southward was born and raised in Dade City, FL. Eric has always been known for being a skilled basketball player, he is also known for his “killer crossover.”
ABOUT ME
Eric was raised in a single-parent household. Eric lived with his mom, his 3 siblings and 2 nephews (all athletes), while living in the urban community. Basketball was Eric’s outlet and the basketball court became his second home. He always was looking for ways to better his game. Basketball kept him focused, in school, and off of the streets. He made a name for himself and he developed a love for the game that was undeniable.
Out of his family of athletes, Eric was the only one who loved the game of basketball. He was always striving to be better and he remained teachable. Eric played in the local youth basketball leagues growing up and was one of the first members of the AAU Florida Elite Basketball team. Eric played high school basketball at Pasco High School, where he earned All County first team and finished his senior year averaging 20 points a game. He also lead the county in free throw percentage.
After high school Eric went on and played college basketball at Pasco-Hernando State College. He was a leader on the team and he thrived at the collegiate level. Eric then transferred to Southeastern University to complete his education. While at Southeastern University he earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in Recreation and Sports Management, becoming the first member of his family to graduate from college.
After college Eric had an internship at Stetson University, under their Basketball Operations Department. He then became an assistant basketball coach at Trinity College of Florida. His love for the game continued and he developed a new passion, coaching! He felt a new calling on his life, and he wanted to give back to the community. So, he began mentoring and coaching middle school boys & girls basketball.
Eric recently retired from teaching in the school system and he is currently running weekly classes for preschool and early learning centers through school basketball program called Little Hoopsters Academy. He believes that teaching kids to stay active, through play and discovery will have a lifelong impact on them physically, emotionally, and psychologically. He hopes to inspire kids through the game of basketball to become their BEST, both on and off the court!
In the evenings, Eric also goes into the community and runs individual and group basketball training sessions, for kids ages 5-17. He also runs a reoccurring youth basketball league in the Spring and during the summers he runs 2 youth basketball camps.
Eric encompasses the true meaning of an Elite Player, Coach, and Mentor!
